EFT Tapping Tutorial for Body Safety

What is Safety?

When you feel safe in your body, you will notice an expansion and spaciousness within your body.

When you feel unsafe for one reason or another you are more likely to feel an enclosure within your body and a sense of tension.

When we think about our safety response, aka fight, flight or freeze. 

We think about that from a brain perspective and whilst that is true it is a signal that comes from the brain, we need to come down to the body level to feel safety and further down the track to heal the reason for the response in the first place.

To Heal the nervous system we need to visit the body...

We are learning more and more how important the body is in any nervous system healing and regulation.

Working on the mind and the brain is only one part of the equation, we need to invite the body to the table to help us gain holistic healing.

As the book by Bessel van der Kolk “The Body Keeps The Score” tells us trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust.

Bringing this back to safety, what your brain has experienced your body has experienced and what your body has experienced your brain has experienced.

It can feel like a vicious cycle between the brain and the body and the signals that are been transmitted.

 

You need something that works at both a brain (cognitive) level and body (somatic) level.

Side of the hand:

Eventhough I’m experiencing these body sensations, I know that I am safe. I accept myself and how I feel.

Eventhough I’m feeling these things in my body. It’s causing me to feel unsafe. But I choose right now to remind myself that I am safe. I accept myself and how I feel.

Eventhough I’m experiencing these body sensations, and in the past, that has told my mind that I am in danger. I now choose to state that I am safe now. I accept myself and how I feel.

Inside Eyebrow: It is safe for me to feel these body sensations

Side of the Eye: It is safe for me to feel these body sensations

Under the Eye: It is safe for me to feel these body sensations

Under the Nose: It is safe for me to feel these body sensations

Chin: It is safe for me to feel these body sensations

Collarbone: It is safe for me to feel these body sensations

Under the arm: It is safe for me to feel these body sensations

Top of the head: It is safe for me to feel these body sensations

This very quick tapping round can help to bring your body into a feeling of safety.  I recommend giving it a try the next time you notice even a slight sensation in your body.
