This is a topic and question on everyone’s mind right now on a global scale, how can I boost my immunity?  I know for me when this global pandemic started my first thoughts went to how am I going to keep my girls safe, especially my eldest who is immunocompromised.

We went through all the normal steps that were being recommended by medical experts, social distancing, personal hygiene, hand sanitizer and vitamin supplements.

As an energy healer I was very aware that there was more too it, there were other things that had the capacity to be lowering our immunity.

According to the Centre for Disease Control (CDC) there is and emotional component in 85% of all illnesses.

Stress and anxiety can have a huge impact on your physical health, especially chronic levels and during this time there is unprecedented levels of stress in people on a global scale.

To add to that is not only your own stress and anxiety, but what you as an Empath are feeling from not only those in your physical presence but the overwhelming vibration of our planet right now.

You may look at your own circumstances and feel you know what it’s okay, I am doing fine, yet still experiencing a low grade anxiety.  The issue I have noticed with that is, when it is your own stress and anxiety you can use your coping tools but when its coming from something you know nothing about, now that is challenging.

Just the awareness of the vibration that the planet is operating at right now can be a huge help to you, knowing that you may feel a low grade anxiety that is not yours helps you to cope.

Connecting in with your cosmic team and always asking the question “is this mine?” If not ask them to release it from your auric field.  Due to the high levels of anxiety right now, it is important to add this to your tool box and use it regularly.

What we think and what we tell ourselves can either support or undermine our health.  Because the immune system is so sensitive to thoughts, emotions, and subtle energies, energy healing can be an extremely useful tool in supporting wellness, fighting illness and speeding healing.

Understanding the effect of stress on your physical body is the first step but as we all know stress is a constant in all of our lives.  So the important thing is to learn how to navigate it in your life, finding, understanding and implementing coping tools that help to reduce your stress levels.

EFT has been shown through scientific studies to have a great effect both on lowering stress levels but also the physical effects of stress on the body, including the immune system.  The following physical improvements have been recorded:

  • Lowers your blood pressure
  • Boosts your immune system
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Lowers your level of stress hormones

EFT Tapping has been scientifically proven to rewire the brain to bring both the body and mind back into balance!

“The most revealing studies of the physiological aspects of EFT have examined its epigenetic effects. A population of veterans with PTSD received 10 EFT sessions. It found regulation of 6 genes associated with inflammation and immunity. Whilst seeing the scientific studies is needed and fantastic to see, I have found both my own personal experience and those of my clients is the most powerful. Just a short three years ago I was very unwell physically after many years of chronic stress levels due to my daughters seizures.

Through the use of EFT to navigate my stress levels, I was able to not only cope with what I needed to deal with I was able to heal events, memories and words of my past that were having a large impact on my body.

I went from getting sick all the time, a new cold or infection every week to feeling well and not catching any colds or infections.  I was amazed to see the difference in how I was feeling just by healing emotionally.

RELATIONSHIP HARMONY – A wonderful card to receive right before the Christmas Period, what could be better than feeling the love and peace that comes when each and every person has an open heart.  This is the gift the Angels are giving you, what they are asking from you is that you manage your expectations during this time, Christmas is usually a time where we come together with people we don’t necessarily see all that much throughout the year and this can cause friction and tension sometimes.  Coming into it with an open heart and lowering your expectations allows you to the enter the space with a lightness and with that comes a more joyful experience, as you aren’t expecting anything from anyone and with that comes harmony and beautiful surprises and miracles bestowed upon you.

ANGEL THERAPY – Fancy that another week of our guidance following on like a beautiful story, the angels are blessing you with open hearts all around and now Archangel Raphael is coming in and showering you with his beautiful healing energy and asking you to hand anything over to him, you don’t have to do it alone.  As I mentioned in Card 1 Christmas can be a time of tension and stress and we can sometimes feel we have to do it alone, but NO your angels are there to support you and pave the way for you to have a beautiful relaxing experience if you allow them to help you.

In the video below I talk about how Christmas is known as a time of coming together, celebrating and forgiveness but it can also be a time of reflection, what has the past being about, what has it taught you?  In my view and the angels are guiding as well its not the best time to be trying to mend deep hurt with other people, because tensions can be running high, alcohol flowing and expectations are also high.

YOU ARE SAFE – What is better than that, to know you are safe.  Our beautiful strong Archangel Michael is with you, ready to cut through any negative energy that you may pick up with his infamous sword.  He is wanting you to know that he has your back!  There may be situations you find yourself in over the holidays that maybe are not of your choosing and not something you may know how to necessarily cope with, this is where he is going to come in and support you, if you allow him to.

Ask for his strength and courage to help you through times that may see you surrounded with people that are not necessarily on your vibration level, yes family are not always understanding or respectful of our difference and our growth and that can be challenging.  So ask Archangel Michael to be with you and surround you in his beautiful purple light and to cut any cords with people that you no longer want your energy attached to, now this doesn’t mean that you don’t love them or even want to sever all communication, it is just cutting the energetic cord, so your energy stays protected.

ALL IS WELL – What a beautiful way to end our story this week and also as an individual message for you, ALL IS WELL!  Isn’t that what we all want to just know that everything is going to be okay.  What the angels are guiding is if you can follow their guidance during this time, and well of course always, then all will be well.  They are also guiding there are going to be times where you need to let things play out, even if it doesn’t feel good and even downright painful sometimes, you just need to let it be.  Now I know as empaths and sensitive souls this isn’t easy for us, because we are so compassionate and always wanting to help and serve others.  But sometimes we just need to let things be and see where they go, not interfering, just going with the flow and only acting from a place of alignment and when you feel guided to step in.

Now we all know how easily we can be triggered by family, boy are they good at pressing our buttons, but it is your job to just stand back and allow it to just flow over you like water off a ducks back.  No reacting, just observing and removing yourself from the situation if need be.   As you do that you will soon see that ALL IS WELL.

 

What a beautiful story this week, an empowering one I feel, knowing that you are in control, you can lower those expectations and go into each day and each event with an energy of lightness and relaxation.  Not concerned with things going perfectly, but just spending time with people you love and knowing you have the power, strength and healing of the Archangels right by your side.

Surrender to Setting Limits – As sensitive souls and empaths boundaries are one of the most important things you can do to protect your energy, and also one of the hardest things you will ever have to do.  As an empath and sensitive soul it is our purpose to help others, so having to set boundaries can be both hard and scary at the same time, thoughts of who will I be without being there for everyone all of the time and what will people think are sure to bubble to the surface.

What I would like you to think about is the times where you feel really energised and what that means for the energy you are putting out into the world and then when you are depleted what energy is being received by the world.  Another way to consider enforcing boundaries is how you view others that have boundaries, what do you think about them?  I am sure it isn’t anything bad, if anything you probably envy their ability to do that.

With all that in mind, how do you feel now about placing some boundaries to protect your beautiful sensitive energy?  Let me know in the comments below, I would love to hear your experience and I can then offer you some support in putting your boundaries in place guilt free.

Surrender the Habit of People Pleasing – This is a habit that many sensitive souls aka helpers and nurturers tend to have, we love to be able to help others and in that we can get stuck in the habit of doing exactly what they want to make them happy.  The problem with that is it can cause others to never actually be able to get to know us, because all we are ever doing is what they want and it really leaves no room for your beautiful unique light and gifts to shine.

Now people pleasing isn’t something you just stop doing, it is more of a recovery, “Hi I’m Nicole and I’m a recovering People Pleaser”.  Little by little you can adjust your behaviour, not doing things for people just to please them, not holding back when you know there are either words or actions that would really help this person on a deeper level.  Trust me as you start to do this, what you feel and experience will be so much more and benefit you so much more on a soul level.

You will soon notice the adjustment of others behaviour towards you as well, they will be coming to you because they know you can really help them on such a deep growth level as opposed to “oh she will just do this for me”.

Surrender Fear – Fear is something we all have at one time or another and about different things, sometimes fear can be a good thing keeping you safe in times of perceived danger.  The issue comes when that perceived fear is just that, not actual danger, but something due to past experiences in your life making your primitive brain feel like you are in danger.  This is when your body will react within 3 secs of the perceived danger putting you into fight, flight or freeze mode, your conscious mind always takes a little longer to click to what is happening and then confusion sets in, to what is actually happening.

It can be very easy to just allow fear to be in the drivers seat, follow its lead and stop whatever you were attempting to do that your primitive brain felt was a danger.  Whilst that’s all fine and good, its really sucks when it starts to really affect your life on a deeper level, stopping you from really living your destined life and your angels feel sad when they see fear holding you back as they can see what is possible for you and your potential, they are asking you to allow them to help you in times of fear, call them in and ask them to help you to feel calmer and to understand the purpose of your fear mind.

Surrender Stress – Similar to card #3 stress is something else we all deal with and can also be helpful in times of getting you motivated and moving on a task, idea or your life purpose.  It is when you are experiencing chronic stress that its time to release it and find new and more helpful ways to cope with what you are experiencing in your life.  From personal experience I know what chronic stress can do to your body, I was under chronic stress for about 3 years after the diagnosis of my daughter with epilepsy and it had really been taking a toll on my body causing me to have injuries and also adrenal fatigue.

So I can tell you how important it is for you to surrender stress, to find other ways to ensure no matter what is happening you are not allowing the experience or circumstances to leave you in a place of stress 24/7.  Again like card #3 your angels are asking you to call on them, bring them in when you need support to cope with a difficult situation or experience, they love to be able to help you and can bring you such peace.

Stress Busters For Mums

In my opinion there is one role we choose to take on as women and it is the most difficult, yet the most profound, growth provoking and fulfilling.  You got it, our role as a mother, one day all of a sudden we are responsible for this little human, with no guidelines and no rule book or manual to speak of.

Can you imagine starting a new job and being thrown in the deep end with no instructions, help or flotation devices to speak of.  Just wouldn’t happen right, hello HR we have a problem.

So of course mums experience different levels of stress throughout their child’s life, I’m just learning now with teenagers, one nearly 18, it doesn’t get better, or worry less, it’s just different.

“The older they get, the bigger the age number, the bigger the problems”

Stress Busters for Mums

 

So let’s look at some strategies aka Stress Busters For Mums to help you through some of those stressful periods as a Mum.

  1. Breathe

Breath work is very powerful in lowering your stress levels, helping you to self-regulate your emotions and then respond in a more calm manner.  Ensuring you are breathing deeply, in through your nose and out through your mouth.  Note: Shallow breathing will cause your anxiety to spike, in turn making your stress levels worse.

2. No comparing

STOP comparing yourself to other women and other mothers, even your own.  You are not them and they are not you, also they don’t have your children, they don’t know your children like you do.  You know what your children need, comparing yourself to others is only going to bring more misery and possibly trigger you in ways of self-worth and self-confidence.  You are doing your very best and that is Enough!

3. Adult Time Out

You need some time-out, time to just breathe (see strategy #1), to tend to your needs without being pulled in a thousand different directions.  Time out for you will be different for time out for me or any other woman, you do you and let others do them.  If you could take an “Adult Time Out”, what would that look like for you?

Taking a time out is not neglecting your children or your role as a mum, you are doing it for them not to them.  A calm and relaxed mum is way more fruitful for your children than an exhausted, stressed and overwhelmed mum.

4. Emotion Regulation

You are human despite you proving otherwise with your amazing skills at being in a million places at once and being everything to everyone.  So yes you have needs and you have emotions that need tending to, emotion regulation is going to help you to feel calm within the chaos that is life as a mum.  Along with the first three strategies this is important in keeping you grounded and allowing you to cope with life’s hard knocks.

EFT or Tapping is a great modality to be using to help you self-regulate (you can teach it to your kids too), its easy to learn and very effective at lowering both yours and your children’s stress levels.  In my mind a calm mum is a calm child and a calm child is a calm mum.  Check out the video below where I take you through a quick process of what EFT or Tapping is and how you can use it in your life.

Emotional Wellbeing – Is it really all that important?

In two words I am going to answer that for you – HELL YEAH!

Let me tell you why, each of us has three parts to our wellbeing:

Emotional Wellbeing

Each part needs and deserves equal attention, physical wellbeing receives more attention and is more socially acceptable than emotional and spiritual wellbeing.  Yet doesn’t mean it is any more important or vital to your overall wellbeing.

Stress has become a leading cause of disease in the physical body and your emotional wellbeing is a huge factor in managing your stress levels and in turn the Dis-Ease you are experiencing.

There are many ways that you can deal with your stress levels and emotions that DO NOT support your overall wellbeing, for example:

  • Distraction techniques such as:
    * Emotional Eating
    * Smoking
    * Drinking
    * Drug Use
    * Excessive Shopping

These distraction techniques in avoiding dealing with your emotions then have a negative effect on your physical wellbeing.  So yes your emotional wellbeing is IMPORTANT!

Let’s talk about ways in which you can make your Emotional Wellbeing an important part of your life.

  1. LISTEN to your Feelings and ask these questions:
    * What are you trying to tell me?
    * Where is this feeling coming from?
    * What action should I take?
  2. FEEL your Feelings, just let them come and go without judgement or dissection
  3. RELEASE your Feelings, let go of the experience that is the cause of the feeling.

Living with stress

A Guide to Living with Stress

Let’s start with the acronym for Stress:

STRESS = Situations That Release Emergency Signals or Stimuli

Stress is something we all experience in our lives be that us as adults or our children and sometimes our children are the source of our own stress.

So how do you live with stress in your life without allowing it to be detrimental to your health and inner peace?

It really comes down to having a plan in place and go to strategies that you can use in the moment to reduce and cope with your feelings of stress, either big or small.

In times of high stress I have always found the following quote a great reminder of the control I have in each and every situation.

The situations that appear in our life are not always in our control, but how we react to it, now that is where our power lies.  There are always going to be times in your life where everything goes belly up and your response to it is going to be the catalyst to what happens next.

This is especially important when dealing with our children, when they are acting in ways that cause us stress, it is because they are experiencing their own level of stress, so our reaction to it is paramount to again what happens next.

I am sure you are seeing a pattern here:

Situation > Response > What Happens Next

As you can see our response is the middle ground here which is a very important place to be and as such just as important to have the strategies available to you to gauge your response in each situation.

5 Strategies to Living with Stress

  1. Calm Tone of Voice – This is imperative for how you speak to yourself during times of stress and your children.  This will allow you to calm yourself and those around you, aka your children.
  2. Deep Breathing – Your breath is the biggest natural asset that you have, using it to calm your mind in times of stress will allow you to think in a logical way.  Use 4>4>4 method, breathe in for a count of 4, hold your breath for a count of 4 and exhale for a count of 4.
  3. Smiling – Utilising another natural asset your smile, this will help to relax your muscles, notice more positive options and lower your blood pressure
  4. Stay in the present moment – Ground your energy through using this statement “I am Nicole; I am 42 years old, this is the present and not the past; I am safe here, today is Thursday”  Using this statement with your personal information will bring you back into the present moment where you are safe.
  5. Gratitude Practice – Each day write down one thing you are grateful for and put it in a box and then on days of stress reading these entries will help to lower your stress levels.  Another great thing to do as a family is read these entries on World Gratitude Day – 21st September.

Using these simple strategies in your daily life will help you and your children to start to self-regulate and live with stress in a way that doesn’t affect your health or inner peace.

Epilepsy

My Epilepsy Warrior

In this week’s blog I wanted to share a personal experience with you in hopes of bringing awareness to Epilepsy in Children.   As many of you may or may not know our 16 year old daughter has two types of Epilepsy; Generalised Epilepsy and Photosensitive Epilepsy.

March is the month of Epilepsy Awareness here in Australia with March 26 being Purple Day.

In the past week our daughter’s seizures returned with a vengeance after a 115 day siesta, to say the least it was very heartbreaking for her and us.  Epilepsy can lead you into a false sense of security when the seizures are controlled.  I always remember her neurologist saying to us “never become complacent, even when the seizures are quiet, as Epilepsy is always there just under the surface and will re-surface with a vengeance”.

To give you a better understanding of what having seizures means for a kid, first lets talk about the learning deficits.  If you can imagine losing 10-20 seconds of time many times a day and think about how that would affect your day, that is what our kids are dealing with in trying to attend school every day, keep up with the school work and get some resemblance of an education.

On Friday Gabby had what is called a Tonic Clonic seizure (Grand mal seizure) which lasted for 3 mins, this all happened at school with people who have never experienced it before, so really didn’t know what to do.  The best laid plans go out the window in a moment of panic, I had strict instructions on what needed to happen but unfortunately they did not recognise what was happening.  A big reason for working on a better awareness around childhood epilepsy.

There are over 40 different types of seizures, Gabby has three different types within her two types of epilepsy.  Absence seizure, which is her becoming unconscious and flickering of her eyelids and generally lasts 10-20 secs.  Absence seizure – staring, which is her becoming unconscious and staring into space and generally last 10-20 secs and tonic clonic seizure, stiff arms, shaking legs, eyes rolling back (this type of seizure is more recognised by those with no experience with epilepsy or seizures).

Each child is different in how their seizures present but there is a set of rules in dealing with someone who is having a seizure and below I have shared with you “First Aid for Seizures”.

The aftermath of a seizure

Post seizure can be a tough time for the kids, some come out of it fairly quickly and others stay in what is called “postictal state” for some time.

“The postictal state is the altered state of consciousness after an epileptic seizure. It usually lasts between 5 and 30 minutes, but sometimes longer in the case of larger or more severe seizures, and is characterized by drowsiness, confusion, nausea, hypertension, headache or migraine, and other disorienting symptoms.”

Now the seizure is over and so is the postictal state we get back to life as normal as possible, what does that look like?  For us it is filled with anxiety and supporting Gabby to cope with her daily seizures once again, luckily for us I am a trained professional counsellor and eft coach, so I have the tools to support her.

The important thing to understand is Epilepsy is so much more than just seizures, it is the aftermath and dealing with the fear of seizures on a daily basis.

So, how do we cope with this as a family?  Gabby is the one suffering with the seizures and if we could we would certainly take it away, but for us as a family there are hard times that each of us have to cope with.  My younger daughter Grace struggles sometimes to deal with Gabby’s epilepsy, it frightens her and she is constantly worried about her sister.  As awful as epilepsy is, it has brought our two girls together and they are extremely close.

As her mum I also struggle with anxiety and constant worry about her and what her life is going to be, I did become complacent in a seizure-free period so this past week has been very tough.  As her dad, Alex just wants to protect her and take it away, but obviously he can’t.  He commented recently, “what the hell do we do now?”.

For us having support around us as we go through this journey is paramount to our own emotional and mental wellbeing, we hold each other up as much as we can and having my parents to support us is very comforting.

The Benefits of Meditation

Meditation is a bit of a buzz word right now, isn’t it?

So, like the old saying goes if you can’t beat them, join them.  Let’s dive in and look at what meditation is and the benefits you can expect to experience with a regular practice of meditation.

Meditation is having an inner focus and a thought awareness to achieve a state of relaxation and a calm mind.  Sounds pretty good to me, I am sure we can all do with a technique to allow us to have a calm mind.  Although I may be a little biased after all my business is “Calm Your Mind Wellness”.

I’ll start by sharing with you my own personal experience of meditation, as you all may know, I never share anything with you that I haven’t tried myself.

When I first started meditating I felt like I wasn’t very good at it, as my thoughts just kept on coming.  I said things like “I am just not good at this meditating thing” and “I am never going to be able to stop my thoughts”.  I just kept at it and my thoughts kept coming and it wasn’t until I learned that stopping my thoughts wasn’t actually the goal anyway.  Hallelujah!

The release of pressure of my shoulders when I realised this was amazing, now not stopping my thoughts, that I can do.   So if I am not stopping my thoughts what am I doing, I hear you ask?  Well, all you need to do is just let them be, allow them to come and allow them to go.

Thoughts like feelings, just want to be heard in a sense.  Let them come and let them go, the letting go is the important part as at times we tend to hold onto a thought like it is gospel.  I thought it so it must be true, right?  Not necessarily, our thoughts are coming from past experiences, so each person can have a completely different thought over the same situation.

What I want you to start to do is become an observer of your thoughts, a bit like a judge in a courtroom.  You have the prosecutor and the defence attorney, fighting it out and the judge just sits back and observes.  That is your job now, observe your thoughts and decide whether they have merit or not.

5-minute meditation practice

 

Step 1 – Find a quiet place

Step 2 – Sit or lay down

Step 3 – Start 5 minute timer

Step 4 – Close your eyes

Step 5 – Start concentrating on your breath – nice deep breaths

Step 6 – Observe your thoughts

Step 7 – Let your thoughts come and go

Step 8 – Open your eyes and feel refreshed

 

Over time you will be able to increase your time, 5 minutes is a great place to start.  “The Insight Timer App” is perfect for your meditation, it plays music and will sound a chime when your time is up.

Is it time to let go?

Do you feel like you are pushing a rock up a hill?

Recently, I have started to look at my life and wonder if the challenges we experience as a family with a child that has special needs are really necessary.

As women there are certain expectations put on us by society, family, friends and of course ourselves.  So, how do we meet them all without ending up hiding in the corner rocking backwards and forwards?

Where are you putting unnecessary pressure on yourself to do things perfectly?

I know for me I tend to look at others and feel like I should be doing things in the same way.  So, I put pressure on myself to conform to a certain way of life but due to our circumstances that is never going to work.

Are you living your life or someone else idea of how your life should look?  Having a plan for your life is great, setting goals and reaching for the stars is fantastic but it is important to ensure you are not suffering under the pressure of perfection.

There has been many times in my life where I have tried to conform and I have pushed and pushed, only to realise that plan was never for me, like putting a square in a circle shaped hole.  Have you ever felt like that?

As women its a great time to stand up and say its time to peel back the layers and find our true authentic self and only following your path and doing the things that feel right to you.

That will be different for each one of you, and you know what, that is okay.

I had a realisation this week that I stopped doing something I love to please someone else 11 years ago, 11 years ago.  What a long time to be serving others and forgetting about the most important person, ME!

I am now getting back on my path, awakening my true authentic self and letting go of anything that doesn’t feel right and yes that does include people as well.

A great time to remember some people come into your life for a short time and others for the long haul, the trick is knowing the difference and releasing those here for the short term.

I have suffered from anxiety and panic attacks since I was a young child and boy do I wish this was around back then, I spent a lot of my time either fighting against my own thoughts or running away from situations that scared me.

Fast forward to today I can happily say I haven’t had a panic or anxiety attack in two years and yes since I learned about Tapping.  At first I have to admit it felt very strange and I really wondered whether it was doing anything, or was it just my imagination.

The affects I feel from tapping are just too real for it to be my imagination, I have never come across anything else (yes I have tried a lot of different modalities) that was able to calm me in the moment of high stress.
