What is Micro Self-Care?

Self-care is always a hot topic especially in the wellness space and as a counsellor and energy practitioner in this space, it is my responsibility to also be honest with you about what is possible on a day-to-day basis.

Self-care is something that each and every person needs, for their physical body, mental mind and emotional wellbeing.

Just like each of us are unique so are our needs and our lifestyle.  So of course there isn’t one generic way of implementing self-care that is going to work for everyone.

In this article I want to introduce you to Micro Self-Care, ways in which you can implement self-care into your life, no matter what is going on around you.

Let's be honest life gets in the way!

Micro Self-Care

Micro self-care are those little things you do that allow you to feel nurtured, cared for and that you matter too.  You may not even realise that you are already including micro moments throughout your day that provide this for you.

Before I share with you some examples of micro self-care, I would like you think for a moment what things you know help you to feel nurtured.  You may not do them all the time, but you know when you do them you feel better.

Examples of Micro Self-Care

  • Warm drink
  • Kind thoughts
  • Journaling
  • Use your favourite moisturiser
  • 5 minute time out to breathe
  • Read a couple pages of your favourite book
  • Conversation with your inner child
  • Use your favourite cup and plate
  • Go for a walk in nature

There are so many more ways in which you can nurture yourself, this isn’t an exhaustive list by any means.  It is a way to get you started in thinking about what things you have done or can do moving forward to nurture and care for yourself.

When we think about self-care depending on your past experiences it may feel like too much, no time or just out of reach for you for one reason or another.  What I want to share with you is there are many ways in which you can nurture yourself and remind both the adult you and the inner child within you, that you matter too.

You deserve to be part of your schedule, I encourage you to put your self-care micro or macro into your schedule/diary to ensure you are reminding yourself that your life is yours to live and enjoy.

Share below in the comments what your micro self-care is, you never know who that might help.
